The 2008 awards are in and Michael Leighton was ranked #56 of all Realty Executive agents throughout the country in commissions earned. This ranks him as #1 on Cape Cod and #3 in New England.
Michael Leighton was recently quoted in this month’s Cape Cod View for an article called Ups & Downs of Creating Space…Remodeling attics and basements to gain room for a family’s lifestyle. A basement remodeling, on average, costs $66,139 and generates $37,497, or fifty-seven percent at resale time. It’s important to note that none of the different types of home improvements analyzed yielded a return close to a hundred percent last year. And while these statistics are general and not broken down for Cape Cod, Michael Leighton of Realty Executives in Brewster notes that finished basements appeal to some people and not to others. “Buyers do like master bedroom suites,” Leighton says. “However, the amount of money one would spend to redo an attic and add a true second floor is a lot, and one would be hard pressed to see the full return o investment.” He says these projects should be evaluated based on the personal worth or satisfaction to the current homeowner, not just for later resale payback. He cautions against attempting these building projects without professional help. A poorly executed remodel will detract from the propery’s value and the lack of a building permit for these projects will be a red flag later to potential buyers, he adds.

Last weekend Leighton Realty Rentals participated in the Brewster in Bloom festival on Cape Cod with a booth at the Antiques and Collectibles fair.
